In a series of IG stories, Aimee referred to the skit as “mean and unfunny.” “Such a shame, cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago,” she said at one point. “Yes, take the piss for sure – but there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way?”
Aimee later revealed that SNL had reached out to offer an apology for the whole situation — but the fracas has since become one of the week’s most-discussed celebrity news stories. Somehow, Walton Goggins was even dragged into it.
So, in the last 24 hours there’s been pictures going around via TMZ of Aimee looking visibly upset and crying alongside House of the Dragon star Ralph Davis.
After the photos went around, British TV presenter Ashley James shared a message of support for Aimee on IG. “Absolutely devastating to see another brilliant and talented actress reduced to tears because of people tearing into their appearance,” she wrote. “Women truly can’t win. Embrace their natural beauty- get ripped apart. Alter their appearance to fit the very narrow ideals of beauty – get crucified. @aimeelouwood you are so beautiful. But more than that, you’re an incredibly talented actor. A true talent. Shame on SNL for their cruelty. I’m so glad you spoke up.”
Aimee shared Ashley’s post on her own IG and offered some clarifying information regarding the photos themselves. “Thank you so much,” she wrote, “Just to say, I actually wasn’t crying about anything that the papers made out I was crying about.”
