Give Me a Second Chance

With Charlie Cox’s Daredevil officially a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, another actor from Netflix’s run of Marvel shows is now seeking a chance to return. That would be Finn Jones, who starred as Danny Rand (aka Iron Fist) in two seasons of Netflix’s “Iron Fist” and also played the superhero in “Luke Cage” and “The Defenders.” Jones’ series was widely considered by critics and fans to be the worst of Netflix’s Marvel shows, which also included “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones.”

Jones recently appeared at the LaConve anime convention in Mexico (via IGN) and noted there’s a “willingness for the fans to see” his return as Iron Fist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios’ streaming and TV boss Brad Winderbaum stirred up buzz in February by telling Entertainment Weekly that the MCU was “exploring” bringing back Cox’s fellow Netflix heroes, which would include Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Jones’ Iron Fist.

“I’m very aware of the critiques of the character and my role in it,” Jones admitted. “My response to that is like, give me a fucking chance, man. I’m here and I’m ready. I want to prove people wrong. So I would love to see that happen.”

Netflix’s run of Marvel originals got its start with the launch of “Daredevil” in April 2015. The three other superhero shows followed, plus 2017’s “The Defenders.” All of the Netflix-Marvel series were canceled in 2018 and 2019 in the lead-up to the November 2019 launch of Disney+.

A contract prevented Netflix’s Marvel shows and characters from appearing in any non-Netflix series or films for at least two years after each series’ cancellation, thus explaining the long gap between Cox’s last Netflix appearance as Daredevil in 2018 and his first MCU appearance in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” He popped up again in 2022’s “She-Hulk” and is now headlining his first MCU project with “Daredevil: Born Again.”

“I can’t say much, but I’ll tell you that it’s so exciting to be able to play in that sandbox,” Winderbaum told EW last month about bringing more Netflix heroes to the MCU. “Obviously we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book. If you can draw it, you can do it. It’s dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring.”
