Are you in need of restoring your hunger bar? Maybe a new fiery concoction to cast skeletons away from stealing your loot?
Regardless of your adventuring needs, McDonald’s has crafted a new fiery potion releasing on April 1 to complement its McNuggets ahead of the release of an upcoming blockbuster film (see what we did there?).
Along with a new Nether Flame sauce straight from the pixelated world of Minecraft, McDonald’s is offering customers “A Minecraft Movie” meal, featuring a choice of a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets with medium fries and a drink. Minecraft fans no longer have to use an in-game furnace to replenish their hunger.
The sauce, which might pair best with a virtual Minecraft milk bucket to cool the spice, includes crushed red pepper and cayenne along with “hints of garlic and sweetness,” the fast-food chain said in a press release.
It’s just the latest of McDonald’s pop culture-themed sauces paired with McNuggets. In August 2023, McDonald’s featured an “As Featured in” Sweet ’N Sour sauce for its McNuggets with the restaurant appearing in the Marvel series “Loki.”
On July 9, McDonald’s partnered with the popular Anime “Jujutsu Kaisen” for its Special Grade Garlic Sauce. Featuring garlicky flavors like the Nether Flame Sauce, the “JJK” sauce was the first in North America to feature garlic flavors from the fast-food chain.
When purchasing “A Minecraft Movie” meal, fans will receive one of six block-themed collectibles that feature a McDonaldland crossover with items from the movie. Items available from the treasure chest-worthy collection include a “Big Mac Crystal,” “Birdie Wings,” “Fry Helmet,” “Grimace Egg,” “Soda Potion” and “Zombie Hamburger.”
Teasing some apparent playable skins featured in the trailer such as Grimace and the Hamburglar, each of the six collectibles comes with a corresponding card and digital code to unlock a character related to each treasure.
Using the McDonald’s app, fans can additionally receive a redeemable code to unlock the “McDonald’s Add-On pack” in the video game to unlock more in-game McDonald’s features. There are additional toys and figurines inspired by “A Minecraft Movie” included in Happy Meals, with a code to an online mini-game.
McDonald’s vice president of marketing JJ Healan said in a press release that Minecraft fans, “had already created a presence in the Minecraft game long before the opportunity to partner with the new film.”
Some early examples come from popular “Minecraft” YouTube creator DanTDM using a McDonald’s “Minecraft” mod of the video game that simulated one of the fast-food restaurants in the game. The YouTube video received over 12 million likes back in 2013 and is one of many videos with millions of likes using the McDonald’s concept in the game.
Three days after this launch, “A Minecraft Movie” will be released in theaters on April 4 in North America and a biome near you.
