A new Marist poll has some bad news for NY Governor Kathy Hochul: a majority of New Yorkers don’t want her to run for reelection. Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer took it on the chin as well, as the poll showed his disapproval rating is in the tank and most Empire State voters want him replaced.
Here are the ugly numbers:
In the survey, conducted of 1,204 adults from April 3-9, 57% of residents statewide said they do not want Hochul to seek reelection next year, including 40% of Democrats.
A tiny percentage “strongly approve” of her performance:
Only 13% of New Yorkers said they strongly approve of how the governor doing her job compared with 31% who strongly disapprove.
35% of residents said they think Hochul is doing either an excellent (9%) or good (26%) job, and 56% rated her performance as fair (19%) or poor (37%), with another 9% saying they are unsure.

To me, this next number is intriguing: even in the deep blue state of New York, residents want the governor to cooperate more fully with President Trump:
51%, including 85% of Republicans and 63% of non-enrolled voters, said they want Hochul to compromise to find common ground with President Donald Trump.
Of course, 70 percent of Democrats want her to “oppose Trump as much as possible.” Like all too many California voters, a majority of New Yawkahs apparently enjoy higher taxation, criminal-loving progressive laws like no bail, and a declining standard of living.

Absolutely brutal numbers in the latest Marist poll. A majority of New York residents want Hochul and Schumer gone, and a third of the population plans to leave the state within five years. https://t.co/FthgNqO30L pic.twitter.com/CfRNK5C9sf

As we mentioned, Chuck Schumer didn’t come out smelling like roses either. The embattled senator, who alienated even members of his own extremist party when he broke ranks and voted for a GOP-sponsored “continuing resolution,” has been in office since the last century (1999), and many think his time has passed:
Meanwhile, approval ratings are dropping for Schumer, the survey said, with 34% saying he’s doing an excellent or good job while 56% gave him fair or poor marks.
A majority of 53% also said they think another Democrat should replace Schumer as the Senate minority leader, with 45% thinking he should stay.
Although it’s doubtful that the New York electorate is suddenly going to fully wake up and start electing common-sense leaders (they had their chance when Lee Zeldin ran for governor) instead of woke leftists, these numbers are at least a sign that some folks are getting tired of the same old same old. The question is: who would replace Hochul?
I bet Anthony Weiner’s looking on with interest.
