Rodeo FX – the VFX studio whose credits includes “Game of Thrones,” “Stranger Things,” “The Rings of Power and work on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune (parts 1 and 2) – reports that it acquired Technicolor‘s Mikros Animation unit following parent Technicolor’s shut down on Feb. 24. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. It’s also not immediately clear how many of the former Mikros Animation employees will join the venture.
The acquisition includes Mikros Animation’s brand and operations in Paris and Canada, as well as equipment from Technicolor Canada, with an aim of continuing the studio’s activities, which at the time of Technicolor’s Feb. 24 included a new PAW Patrol movie and Paramount Animation’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel.
Mikros Animation’s work includes “PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” “Orion and the Dark,” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.” In all, the studio has contributed to 17 feature-length animated films as well as nearly 300 hours of episodic programming for studios including Paramount Animation, Netflix, DreamWorks Animation, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, TF1, and France TV.
“This is a deeply meaningful moment for me and for all of us at Rodeo FX,” said Rodeo FX’s founder and CEO Sebastien Moreau in a released statement. “Welcoming Mikros Animation into our creative family isn’t just about growth, it’s about aligning with people who share our values, our passion for storytelling, and our belief in the magic of animation. Together, we’re building something that goes beyond business: a creative home where artists can dream bigger, push further, and inspire the world.”
“Mikros Animation and Rodeo FX have always shared a mutual respect and admiration. This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for us,” said Julien Meesters, newly appointed president of Mikros Animation. “Joining the Rodeo FX family opensnew doors for us to explore broader animation horizons and to continually reinvent ourselves. Over the years, we’ve built incredible stories alongside our partners. Now, we’re embracing new challenges and evolving landscapes to ensure Mikros Animation remains a leading home for filmmakers.”
