- Samsung started rolling out Android 15 (One UI 7) but had to halt after finding a major bug.
- The update is preventing some owners from unlocking phones.
- Expect delays for older Samsung models receiving the big One UI 7 update, pushing the rollout schedule back.
After months of waiting, several delays, and six beta tests, Samsung finally delivered its big Android 15 (One UI 7) update early last week. Unfortunately, we’re now hearing Samsung is delaying the update and issuing a global halt after finding a serious bug.
On April 7th, Samsung started pushing out the One UI 7 update for the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6, and more in South Korea and then extended that rollout to several other regions, including the United States, on April 10th. Over the weekend, the company was made aware of multiple problems, including one big bug, and reportedly pulled the update from its servers around the globe.
First revealed by the popular leakster @UniverseIce on Xand further detailed by @tarunvats33,this delay will affect countless models in multiple regions.
Yikes! What happened? While it’s hard to say for sure what caused the update to be suspended, reports suggest the Galaxy S24 One UI 7 release broke something with third-party keyboards, like SwiftKey. Once the update finished, owners were unable to enter a password and unlock their phones.
On the Samsung community forums, owners patiently awaiting the update noticed all update files removed from Samsung’s servers, further confirming the delay. For now, it looks like Samsung officially stopped the update for the Galaxy S24 series, the Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6.
Until the problem gets resolved, we don’t anticipate any models in other regions getting the big Android 15 update. Those who’ve already installed the official One UI 7 release will likely receive a modified update as soon as possible to fix these potential issues. However, I’m not sure how they’ll accept and install the update if they can’t unlock the phone. Then, once that happens, Samsung should restart the bigger Galaxy Android 15 update rollout.
Expect Further Delays for Older Samsung Phones
Unfortunately, this means the exciting One UI 7 update for other models will likely face a similar delay. Until Samsung resolves its problems with the Galaxy S24 series, don’t expect the update for additional models like the Galaxy S23, S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, or Fold/Flip 5 phones. Basically, the entire update schedule will likely move back a week or two, if not more.
As a result, instead of seeing Android 15 (One UI 7) starting this week, the Galaxy S23 family of phones will probably see it closer to late next week or in early May. Then, older models or budget phones like the Galaxy A series will be pushed back even further. Again, it’s too early to say for sure, and we’ll update you all as soon as we know more.
Considering the Samsung Galaxy Android 15 update got delayed from December to April and had a very lengthy beta testing process, it’s odd to see such a show-stopping bug arrive at the 11th hour. These things do happen, and rest assured, they’ll be fixed soon.
It’s worth noting that Samsung has yet to officially acknowledge the delay, but based on everything we’re hearing, it’s not looking good. That said, Samsung will likely work fast to resolve these issues, send out another One UI 7 update for the Galaxy S24 series, and then continue delivering the highly anticipated update to additional models. You’ll get the update eventually, just be patient.
