Grant Ellis had a difficult choice before him at the start of the Season 29 finale of “The Bachelor.”
He said he loved Litia Garr in the previous episode — but it was clear his feelings for Juliana Pasquarosa were equally deep.
Here’s what happened in the Season 29 finale of “The Bachelor,” starting with visits with Grant’s family and ending with a romantic proposal.
What happened when Juliana and Litia met Grant’s family?
Litia and Juliana each met with Grant’s mother, father and sister. Grant’s parents are divorced but came together for the show. “To have an opinion for the people I love the most is important,” Grant said.
The visit with Litia went well — she quickly won over Grant’s mother, Renee. “I see the joy that he has with her,” she said in a confessional.
His sister, who met Litia in the Bachelor Mansion, also was happy. “I liked you since Day 1,” she told Litia.
After the visit, Renee was swayed. She thought Litia understood and saw her son and said the experience was a “joy ” for her.

“She’s genuine. She loves Grant. You can see it. I would be very happy with Litia. She’d make a great daughter-in-law,” she said.
Onto Juliana! While Renee liked Juliana, she was concerned that Juliana hadn’t said that she loved Grant yet. “If she doesn’t tell you she loves you, I am asking you to walk away from that,” she said.
But she didn’t have to worry for too long. After saying their goodbyes, Grant took Juliana outside and told her that he loved her. She replied, “For so long, I’ve debated on what it would mean to actually know that I love you. I think I’m finally realizing after meeting your family it’s not one particular moment.”
Juliana then reciprocated his feelings and said she loved him, too.
So, who does Grant propose to?
“In all of ‘Bachelor’ history it has never come down to the wire like this,” host Jesse Palmer said in the lead-up to the proposals.
By the time of the last dates, Grant said he was fully in love with both Juliana and Litia — something he didn’t know was possible.
Going into the “biggest decision” of his life “thus far,” Grant spent one-on-one time with each of his remaining ladies. Unfortunately, since both dates went well, Grant was even more confused.
“I feel alone. I have to make a decision. And make a decision pretty fast. I don’t know,” Grant said alone in the hotel room.
Enter: His dad to help him choose. “They’re both amazing women,” Grant told his dad. He said he felt paralyzed. What if it doesn’t work out? “There’s risk on both sides,” he said.
Grant picked out the rings and then it began. He left the car in the pouring rain for what might be a first in “Bachelor” history: A rainy proposal.
Jesse asked Grant which of the women “to send out first,” suggesting he was deciding until the last minute.
Grant’s breakup with Litia
Litia was the first to emerge from the limo. Wearing a golden dress, Litia said she was “ready to get engaged.” People in the audience looked devastated as they saw what was coming. They shared two kisses before he began his preamble.
“Litia, I love you very much and I want to give you everything you deserve. But I’m not your person,” he said. Litia seemed to physically recoil. “My emotional connection is stronger somewhere else,” he said.
“When did it change?” Litia asked, looking doubtful. She stood up to Grant when he said he hoped she wouldn’t view him differently. “You’re different than I thought,” she concluded — but then said Juliana should have “questions” based on everything he told her.
“Come on,” she continued to say. “The thing that you kept saying along the way make this decision all the more devastating. The switch-up is crazy.”
Grant said he would “take responsibility” for it. “iIm not perfect. I’m trying to do my best. I’m truly sorry,” he said.
Litia held her ground until the very end. “I believe that. I want to be so clear. I’m confused and I’m sad. And I’m mad,” she said.
During the “After the Final Rose” special, Litia reiterated how shocked she was given Grant’s promises. “I remember saying goodbye to him and saying, ‘Oh my gosh, we’re getting engaged tomorrow.’ And him saying, ‘I know. I can’t wait. I love you, I love you, I love you,” she said.
She said Grant had told her she was his “number one emotional connection.”
Litia confronted him again at “After the Final Rose,” saying he led her on.
“As a man I have to accept responsibility for my actions,” he said.
Litia got a rousing applause from the audience by the end of the exchange.
Grant’s proposal to Juliana
Grant beamed when Juliana walked his way wearing a salmon, sparkling dress. He continued to smile through her promises to him.
Juliana told Grant she loved him — words she hadn’t spoken until then. “I’ll be there for you as your man, as your friend and as your partner,” Grant said, dropping to one knee.
He proposed with an emerald cut ring and she exclaimed, “Yes.”
As of the “After the Final Rose” special, Grant and Juliana are still together.
‘The whole journey has felt like a bit of a fever dream. We’ve lived so many months reconnecting. I’m so excited to have dinner with this man,” she said.
